Video: Shanard Elevator Comes Down

The Shanard Elevator, a longtime landmark located along North Main Street in Freeman, SD, came down on Aug. 1, 2022. Kelly Knodel & the team from Knodel Contractors of Freeman headed up the demolition through an agreement with the Freeman City Council. This elevator was already in operation in 1900 & continued to serve area grain farmers into the 1980s. This 8-minute video features images & footage spanning from 10:30 AM until 2:45 PM on Mon., with the main part of the structure falling at 2:33 PM.
