 Voter Eligibility

 If you have voted within the last 4 years and NOT MOVED, you are already registered to vote. 

The deadline for registration is 15 days before any election. Your card must be received by the County Auditor/or City of Freeman's Finance Officer by this deadline if you are to vote in the next election.

Only registered Republicans may vote in a Republican primary.

Registered Democrats and Independents may vote in South Dakota's Democratic Primary. 

VOTER REGISTRATION QUALIFICATIONS

  • Age: At least 18 years old on or before the day of the election

  • Citizenship: Must be a United States citizen

  • Residency: Must be a resident of South Dakota (To be a resident means the place in which you have a fixed habitation and whenever you are absent intend to return to)

  • Mental Competency: Must not be judged mentally incompetent by a court of law

  • Felony Convictions: Not currently serving a sentence for a felony conviction which included imprisonment, served or suspended, in an adult penitentiary system

  • ID Requirements: South Dakota Driver license number or Social Security number required.

 

 

 Fingerprinting

The Freeman Police Department provides fingerprinting for pre-employment background checks.

  • First Tuesday of the month | Freeman City Hall

  • The fee is $6 per card

  • The Hutchinson Country Sheriff’s office in Olivet is also equipped to provide this service. They can be contacted at 387.2341 hours are 8 AM - 4:30 PM, Monday through Friday.
