20 mph Speed Limit Ordinance Effective Nov. 17

A citywide ordinance, impacting speed limits within Freeman, becomes effective on Nov. 17. Unless otherwise posted, the new 20 mph limit impacts all streets in Freeman’s business & residential districts, while 15 mph remains the limit in school zones. New signage is anticipated in future months as Hutchinson County is currently in the process of replacing signs - for speed limits, street names, & other designations - throughout rural areas & municipalities in the county. Ordinance 2021-15 was approved by a council vote of 5-1 after a second reading on Oct. 19 & is posted in the “Government” section of this website. Implementation of the lowered limit is intended to enhance safety for both motorists and pedestrians.
