Freeman Recognized for 18 Years of Tree City USA Status
A recent announcement by the Arbor Day Foundation honored Freeman with Tree City USA recognition for its commitment to urban forestry in 2022. This marks Freeman’s eighteenth year with Tree City USA status.
To earn this designation, communities must meet four requirements: 1) maintain a tree board or department, 2) have a tree care ordinance in place, 3) invest in a minimum of $2 per capita toward community forestry, and 4) host an Arbor Day observance and proclamation.
This year’s Arbor Day observance in Freeman will be held on Friday, April 21, with a tree-planting ceremony taking place on the campus of Freeman Public School. Headed up by Freeman’s Tree City USA team, the event is scheduled to take place at 10 AM. All are invited to observe the ceremony by gathering in the northwest corner of the campus near the intersection of College & Walnut.
Freeman’s Tree City USA team is chaired by Charly Waltner of the Freeman City Council.
