Main Street Businesses to Remain Open Throughout Project
Preparations for Freeman’s Main Street reconstruction project are currently in motion, with Railway Street from Juniper to Main Street closing to traffic for an indefinite period of time beginning on Wednesday, April 27.
Beginning on Monday, May 2, Main Street itself will close to traffic from Railway to Fifth Street. Please know that access to all of Freeman’s Main Street and adjacent businesses, however, will remain available throughout the duration of the project.
A 5-foot width of ADA compliant sidewalk will in place for pedestrians. Side streets and alleys will be utilized for vehicle parking while Main Street is inaccessible. Reconstruction of the street and sidewalks in the business district is expected to be completed by July 29. Once that portion of the project is completed, portions of Third and Fourth Streets, as well as sidewalks, will be under construction.
Several Main Street business will be offering expanded carry-out and delivery services during the reconstruction process. Freeman’s Main Street reconstruction project is under the direction of Sayre Associates of Sioux Falls, with Freeman native Paul Korn serving as project manager for the engineering team. Cole Gebhart of Sayre Associates serves as the on-site project engineer. Reede Construction of Aberdeen was awarded the contractor bid, with several sub-contractors also involved in various aspects of this extensive project.
