Main Street Bids Opened
Bid for Freeman’s Main Street reconstruction project were opened in a public forum at City Hall at 2:15 PM this afternoon. Four bids were submitted, with Reede Construction of Aberdeen identified as the apparent low bidder.
The most recent cost estimate provided by Sayre Associates for the reconstruction of Main Street from Fifth Street to North County Road, as well as a portion of Railway Street, was $3.5 million. Alternate bids were accepted for the option of including four additional blocks in the reconstruction project to include one block to the east & one to the west of Main Street on both Third & Fourth Streets. The projected cost estimate for the bid alternate to include those blocks was $665,230.
The low bid from Reede Construction came in at $4,054,721.35; their bid for the alternate portion of the project totaled $691.992.84.
The bids will be reviewed, with the council making a determination regarding the project in the upcoming weeks. If the council decides to move forward, the business district reconstruction from Fifth to Railway would take place first & span from late April to mid-March. A November completion date was identified for the north segment of the project.
